PhD Thesis: Ecocide and Temporal Complicity
In everyday life, particularly in the Western world, time exists as a calculable and quantitative relationship with the clock, which regulates both the behaviour and meaning of ordinary actions. This cultural conditioning of time, I argue, has become a source of complicity in harm, destruction, and unethical modes of being, and compels humanity to unequivocally accept the temporal commitments of everyday life – regardless of its harmful or criminogenic implications. Primary points of the thesis:
DEEP TIME
Deep time is commonly known as geological time – the vast unimaginable 4.543 billion years of our planet’s history. Deep time is now intertwined with geological agency through the literal acceleration of ‘time’.
CHRONOS AND KAIROS
Ancient Greeks had two words for time: ‘Chronos’, the quantitative relationship with time and ‘Kairos’, the qualitative relationship with time. That is, the right time for something to take place… a time outside of time.
HERMENEUTIC PHENOMENOLOGY
A philosophical approach explaining that the fundamental structure of human experience is interpretive, and that the world always precedes our understanding of it. This approach explains the existential conditions that shape our everyday existence, without us ever knowing.
ECOCIDE
Ecocide denotes the Greek term oikos (home) and the Latin term caedere (to kill). Ecocide, I argue, is a manifestion of unreflective exuberant temporal experiences. A mirror reflecting the failure of understanding the dynamics of time both within and outside ourselves.

Since 1950, humanity has attained a merciless growth addiction which is driven by the insatiable, and seemingly limitless, extraction of the planet’s stock of raw materials. This ecocidal damage warrants us to cautiously consider the possibility of the commercial end of the planet, more succinctly known as: the Crepuscular Earth – the end of the Anthropocene
The Open Metaverse
The transition to Web 3.0, an immersive, creator-focused, and decentralised internet, will enable a new stage of human experience. Beyond the boundaries of walled gardens (closed platforms controlled by a single entity), the open metaverse brings interoperality founded on the community. With a small team, I am currently building a new metaverse which will be grounded in phenomenology and existential growth.
I am actively seeking like-minded individuals who are passionate about this vision and would like to contribute to its development. At this early stage, I am working on this project in my own time, and all contributions would be voluntary. I, however, deeply value collaboration and believe in building financial success alongside those who help bring this project to life. Our metaverse is being built on Unity. We are seeking skilled Unity developers to help bring this vision to life, crafting a world that is both aesthetically inspiring and functionally seamless.
